'Partners in faith', Presbyterian and Roman Catholic congregations working together in Belfast

------------------------

(Archive show from 1993)

Dr. William Rutherford (Fitzroy Presbyterian Church, Belfast - since deceased) and Fr. Gerry Reynolds (Clonard Monastery, Belfast), whose two churches have been working together since 1982, discuss the 11 year relationship between their churches.

(The interview with author, Roger Mitchell, from England, which we had planned for this slot, has gone irretrievably missing.  So, we thought that instead we'd treat you to a wee bit of the original live FM show, from way back in 1993 - when the troubles in Northern Ireland were showing no sign of coming to an end.  We've even left in a little sample of the UK Network News from the end of that show, which will give you the authentic flavour of that period - an archive sample of the (originally 1-hour) faith-based radio show from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The original one hour show was produced in 1993, but outdated/irrelevant material has been removed to leave original interview and music - apart from a little bit of UK Network News from June 1993.

Produced and presented by Raymond McCullough,

with music from:

The Electrics, (Scotland, UK) - '2,000 years', ()

The second part of our interview with Canadian, Joel Molin, married to Melanie, of the Cree First Nation - and the founder of a ministry called Northern Connections.

Joel flies regional jets for Air Canada and also heads up the Manitoba-based ministry of Northern Connections - reaching out to northern native communities - and to other tribes and nations - through cultural expressions.

Last week we talked about the ministry and trips to here in Northern Ireland and to Israel.  But the Lord has also led Joel's ministry to Africa.

Canadian, Joel Molin, who is married to a member of the Cree First Nation - and the founder of a ministry called Northern Connections.

Joel divides his time between Northern Connections and flying regional jet airliners around North America for Air Canada.  Northern Connections is a Manitoba-based ministry reaching out to northern native communities - and to other tribes and nations - through cultural expressions in traditional song, dance and drumming.  I talked to him in a Dublin hotel, while he was over here on a brief visit to Ireland.

Eddie Beckford - originally from New York City, but now living in Arad, Israel, made a promise to God back in Vietnam, but says that in 1979, the Lord 'tricked him'!

Born in Spanish Harlem, Eddie, with his wife, Lura, now runs a chess club and outreach centre in the south of Israel. But back in the early seventies, after he'd survived the Vietnam War, Eddie had quite a different lifestyle. I talked to him in the street outside The King's Men chess club in Arad.

Disillusioned with not seeing biblical results, Darrel Stott was about to resign after 27 years in ministry in Seattle, WA.  He was no longer enjoying his ministry and, before resigning to go into sales, accepted an offer from his dad to visit Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship as a last resort.

What happened to him there transformed his ministry and that of his fellow pastors and, eventually, led him into ministry in 20 different countries, including in the world's largest Muslim country, Indonesia - which, despite difficulties, is experiencing revival in recent years.

ING 05 - 'A Palestinian for peace', Abuna Elias Chacour, Melkite Archbishop, at Mar Elias College, Ibillin, Galilee

Abuna Elias Chacour was the first Palestinian priest to be appointed in Galilee - 19 years after the State of Israel came into being.  The Israeli military had deliberately destroyed his family's home village of Bi'ram, in northern Galilee, forcing his father and brothers into exile and he had every reason to be a bitter opponent of Israel.

Instead he has become a major force for peace and reconciliation, building the only college in Israel today where Muslims, Druze, Christians and Jews both learn and teach together.  He has written two books and spoken in many nations and, in 2006 was appointed as Archbishop of Galilee (ie. Israel) in the Melkite Catholic Church.

I spoke to him in his office at Mar Elias College, in the Arab town of Ibillin, Galilee.

With her husband, Thampy, Mariamma founded the New India Church of God, nearly 40 years ago. They currently have well over 1,500 churches in 22 states of India. They focus on equipping indigenous leaders from the different states of India, training them (in English) in their Training Centre in Goa, them sending them on to one of their 15 other training schools, where they continue to learn in their own language.

Every week seven mobile teams (equipped with a jeep/mini-bus, generator, projector, the 'Jesus' film and PA equipment), bring the gospel to a new unreached village - planting a new church every day or two among the 400,000 unreached villages of India!

All four of their children and their partners are also involved in running orphanages and schools, feeding street children and men, and planting churches in the mega-cities of Calcutta and Mumbai (with 60 million people in each).

Eddie Beckford, a Christian Vietnam veteran from New York City and his wife, Lura, a Jewish woman who has lived in Israel for many years, run a Chess Club, 'The King's Men', for the Russian holocaust survivors in Arad, southern Israel.

The centre is also used to serve the Bedouin, Ethiopian Jews and other needy people in Arad - supplying free bibles, books and clothing - and is the only visible Messianic, or Christian, building in the town. As a result, the centre comes under intense opposition from ultra-Orthodox groups, who brand them as 'missionaries' - a very negative label in Israel.

Raymond McCullough interviews Irene Bredlow, a Canadian who travels to many nations, but has lived in Israel for the past 30 years, or so.

She has spent that time praying - and prayer-walking - for divine encounters in the lives of Jewish and Moslem residents in the Holy Land. Her prayers are simple, but with amazing results, which she relates in this interview.
